Open Time

In order to provide users with a comprehensive picture of their day, Laurel is introducing a new feature - Open Time. This feature is designed to shed light on periods that you're working offline, allowing you to manage these blocks more effectively.

Setting your Open Time threshold

You can select a threshold from the filter options in the search bar, available in the Timeline view. If you've chosen an Open Time threshold, a filter badge will appear in the search bar. If you select 'No Open Time', no filter badge will show.

The Open Time threshold is flexible, allowing you to select the duration that suits your working style. The options available are:

  • No Open Time: You won't see any open time slots in your Timeline view.

  • 2 minutes (Default): You'll see an open time slot if more than 2 minutes pass without an activity. This is the default setting on your first login.

  • 6 minutes: This setting shows an open time slot if more than 6 minutes pass without an activity.

  • 12 minutes: This option displays an open time slot if more than 12 minutes pass without an activity.

Taking action on Open Time slots

You can interact with Open Time slots in three main ways:

1. Merge with the previous activity

  • If you select this option, the stop time of the activity immediately before will extend to cover the duration of the Open Time slot. For instance, if you had an activity from 10:10am to 10:25am (15m) and a 10m Open Time, your previous activity would now run from 10:10am to 10:35am (25m).

2. Merge with the next activity

  • Choosing this option will extend the start time of the following activity to cover the Open Time slot. So, if you had a 10m Open Time followed by an activity from 10:10am to 10:25am (15m), the next activity will now run from 10:00am to 10:25am (25m).

3. Create a new activity

  • You can also create a new activity from the Open Time slot. When you select this, a modal will open, pre-populated with the start and stop times of the Open Time slot.

Time Bar

If you've wished for a bird's eye view of your activities over the course of 24 hours, our Time Bar feature is designed just for you!

What is Time Bar?

Time Bar offers a visual snapshot of your entire day. The Time Bar is represented by an array of blocks, each representing a single hour of your day. The degree to which each block is filled corresponds to how much time you've accounted for during that specific hour.

How can you use Time Bar?

Utilizing Time Bar is simple and intuitive. By clicking on any block within the Time Bar, you can navigate directly to that specific hour in your day. This enables you to quickly jump to different periods of your day, facilitating a smooth review and management of your activities.

Hour Blocks

Hour Blocks is a unique feature designed to give you a better understanding of your activities and the time they occupy during your day. Essentially, it allows you to group and review your activities in hourly increments. Each hour block displays the total number of activities and the cumulative time spent within that particular hour.

How can you use Hour Blocks?

Navigate to the desired hour using the Time Bar. Once there, click the selection box for that hour. This action selects all activities performed within that hour, enabling you to manage these activities in bulk.

💡 Tip: To assign activities within the selected hour, simply press 'A' on your keyboard or click the “Assign” button on the bottom right of your screen. This simple step allows you to allocate your activities for the hour swiftly and efficiently.

Benefits of using Hour Blocks

One of the primary benefits of Hour Blocks is its ability to streamline your view of the day. By grouping activities by the hour, you can easily identify and manage your tasks based on when they were performed. This makes it simpler to review your day, understand your work patterns, and spot any gaps in your schedule.

Additionally, Hour Blocks also come with a collapse and expand feature. This functionality allows you to condense your Timeline view, making it easier to navigate through your day. Simply collapse the hour blocks when you've completed managing activities for a specific period, and expand them if you need to review or change anything.
