You can customize your Laurel experience by adjusting your personal account settings to match your preferences and work style. These settings control everything from your time zone and display preferences to who can access your timesheet. Making these adjustments takes just a few minutes and helps ensure Laurel works exactly the way you need it to.
What you'll need:
Access to your Laurel account (specifically, the Laurel web app) with login credentials.
Names of any delegates who should access your timesheet.
Step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Access your account settings
Log into the Laurel web app and click on your initials in the bottom left corner of the window. From the menu that appears, select "Your Account" to open your account settings page.
Step 2: Navigate to User Settings
Select "User Settings" from the heading menu at the top of the settings page. Here you can update your personal information including your name, contact details, and job title. Make any necessary changes to ensure your profile information is current and accurate.
Step 3: Configure Identity and Access Management
Click on "Identity and Access Management" in the header menu to manage who can access your Laurel account. In the "Assigned Delegates" section, you can add people who are authorized to keep time on your behalf.
To add a delegate, start typing the name of the delegate in the Add Delegate search bar. If the delegate has a Laurel account, their name and email address will appear. Select the delegate, click “Add”, then click “Save” in the upper righthand corner.
When you’ve added a new delegate, please ask them to fully log out of the Laurel web app and log back in to see the updates to their access.
Step 4: Set Up Primary Name Display preferences
Navigate to "Laurel Settings" in the header menu. Under "Primary Name Display," choose which information you want to appear as the main text in your entries. You can choose to have the matter name or the client name appear as the primary display by using the dropdown menu to select either option.
Step 5: Set your Time Zone
Still in "Laurel Settings,” select your time zone in the "Timezone" section to ensure your activities are captured and displayed with the correct timestamps. This is particularly important if you travel frequently or work across multiple time zones. Your activities will always be organized according to the time zone you select here.
When you’ve selected your time zone, be sure to click “Save” in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 6: Choose your Week Start Date
Still in "Laurel Settings,” select your preferred week start date from the "Week Start Date" dropdown menu. You can select Saturday, Sunday, or Monday as the start day of your week from the drop-down menu. Choose the day that aligns with your firm's standard practices or personal preference. This setting affects how calendar views are displayed throughout Laurel.
When you’ve selected your week start date, be sure to click “Save” in the upper right corner of the screen.
Step 7: Select a default Location Code
Navigate to "Billing Settings" in the header menu. Select a default Location Code from the drop-down menu. This should reflect the Location Code your firm requires you to bill to. Setting this code as a default means that it will appear on all of your time entries without you having to manually select it.
When you’ve selected your default Location Code, be sure to click “Save” in the upper right corner of the screen.
Troubleshooting
If you're having trouble:
If you can't find your Laurel account settings: Make sure you're clicking on your initials in the bottom left corner of the Laurel web app, then selecting "Your Account" from the menu that populates.
If you made a change to your settings, but it is not reflected in your Laurel account: Always click the "Save" button after making changes in any settings section. If changes still aren't saving, try refreshing your browser and making the changes again.
If your delegate cannot see your timesheet: Verify that both you and your delegate have the correct permissions set up. Also, the person you're adding as a delegate must already have a Laurel account.
If your activities are not showing the correct time stamps: If your activities are showing incorrect timestamps after changing your time zone, allow up to 24 hours for the change to fully take effect across all captured activities.
What happens next
Your customized settings will immediately apply to your Laurel experience. Any changes to time zone or week start date will affect how future activities are captured and displayed. Your personalized setup ensures Laurel works seamlessly with your specific workflow and preferences.
